JNJ Research Update — September 13, 2026 (Updated)

Updated Thesis

Johnson & Johnson is a 141,700-employee healthcare holding company operating two segments, Innovative Medicine (immunology, oncology, neuroscience, infectious disease, cardiovascular and metabolism, pulmonary hypertension) and MedTech (interventional solutions, orthopaedics, surgery, vision), founded in 1887 and headquartered in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Business quality is high on fundamentals: TTM gross margin of 67.9%, TTM operating margin of 26.8%, TTM net margin of 21.5%, ROE of 25.7%, and free cash flow of $7.67 per share on revenue of $40.64 per share, with revenue growth of 6.6% year over year in the most recent quarter. The problem is price and trajectory: at $270.68 the shares trade at 31.4x trailing earnings, 6.66x sales, 35.31x free cash flow and 20.19x EV/EBITDA, a very expensive regime versus the company's own five-year history, while reported net earnings slipped 0.1% year over year in the most recent quarter and STELARA revenue fell 55.2% to $740 million as biosimilars took hold.

The investment grade as of this refresh is C — average business quality. A-tier business, C-tier valuation with only 5.7% upside to $286.05 fair value.

Our 12–18 Month Outlook

Quality companies held over a multi-year horizon benefit from compounding fundamentals and the patience to ride through short-term volatility. Johnson & Johnson remains in our covered universe with a average-quality assessment. We update research when material data changes — earnings revisions, management shifts, or regime changes in valuation — not on every price fluctuation.

Long-term accumulation of quality businesses at fair or better prices is the core of the Patient Accumulator approach. Research updates like this one inform whether to add, hold, or wait for a better zone — not whether to react to short-term price moves.
